If you’re anything like me, you probably enjoy listening to music while you’re writing. Actually, I just like listening to music all the time, so I’m slowly collecting a large list of music perfect for listening to in the background while you’re working, writing, or doing pretty much anything else. Today I thought I’d share a few of my favourites with you. Where possible I’ve provided both YouTube and Spotify versions so you can listen no matter what websites you use. Feel free to leave some of your own favourite soundtracks/playlists down in the comments. I’m always looking for new recommendations.
Blue Planet 2
Generally quite a positive soundtrack. Completely instrumental, and very atmospheric. Great for listening to if you’re writing something cheerful or peaceful and need something gentle in the background.
God Of War
Much more dramatic, with a darker sound. Generally instrumental, except for a few wordless, atmospheric vocal sections that add an eerie layer to the music. Great for darker sections of writing, and some tracks would make great background music to write fights to.
Mad Max: Fury Road
Awesome, dystopian feel to this music. All instrumental, and often has quite a driving feel to it, if you need to inject a little more energy into your writing session.
BONUS
These playlists are on Spotify only unfortunately, but if you use Spotify, then you might also enjoy these.
Instrumental Pop Covers
Love pop music but find the vocals too distracting while you’re writing? This playlist has hundreds of covers of some of the most popular songs, without any of the distracting lyrics. Especially great if you’re looking to use pop music to help with your writing.
Instrumental Hip Hop | Jazzy
This is really great general background music. It fades into the back of your consciousness and fills up the empty space without being too distracting. I find this one especially good if it’s combined with some ambient noise, such as cafe chatter.
Do you listen to music while you write, or do you prefer silence? Got any recommendations for other soundtracks or playlists I should be checking out? Have you ever listened to any of these before? Let’s chat in the comments!
