Books I’ve Procrastinated Reading For Far Too Long

June 13, 2018

Why is it that to-be-read (TBR) lists are always so long. I read a bunch of books, pat myself on the back for a job well done, turn around, and the list has doubled in size and I haven’t even been to the library yet. There are just so many good books waiting to be read. No matter how valiently I struggle, my TBR list remains unconquered. Someone needs to take my library card away, because I have so many books to catch up on that have been waiting literally years for me to get around to. So, in honour of my glowering TBR pile, here are several books I’ve been eagerly anticipating reading for wayyyy too long.

Illumina/Gemina/Obsidio

Amie Kaufman/Jay Kristoff

I’ve been meaning to read ‘Illuminae’ literally for years at this point. I gave it to my sister two years ago as a Christmas present, and I’ve been meaning to get around to it ever since. Now it has two sequels, which obviously means that they have joined the pile as well. I still haven’t quite got around to it yet, despite the fact that we own physical copies of all threes books, and also having been to a panel at the Sydney Writer’s Festival where Jay Kristoff was actually speaking. I swear I will get around to reading it. Maybe even this year.

The Ask And The Answer/Of Monsters And Men

Patrick Ness

So I have actually read ‘The Knife Of Never Letting Go’ (yay me!). However that was back when I borrowed it from the library and they didn’t have the second book. Now I have the absolutely gorgeous tenth anniversary set sitting on the bookshelf right next to my desk where I look at them every day….and don’t read them. I swear I’m getting around to it. I just haven’t quite made it yet, despite the gorgeous edition I own, and me having been to a couple of Sydney Writer’s Festival panels where Patrick Ness spoke. He’s a fantastic speaker by the way. If you get the chance to see him, take it. I’ve never been so entertained and educated.

Princess Of The Midnight Ball

Jessica Day George

Do you ever have those times where you find an amazing book at the library and absolutely love it, but it’s not the first book in the series and you can’t find the beginning of the series at all?  Maybe that’s just my weird habit of reading books out of order. Anyway, that was me with this trilogy. I read one or two of the later books, but couldn’t find ‘Princess Of The Midnight Ball’, which is the first book in the series. And now that I have it and can read it any time I want, do you think that I’ve devoured it as quickly as possible? Haha, no. This is me we’re talking about here.

Heartless

Marissa Meyer

After reading and loving the ‘Lunar Chronicles’ (one series I actually managed not to procrastinate reading), I was super excited to hear ‘Heartless’ announced. We actually bought it on Kindle not long after it released. And there it sits, collecting virtual dust, waiting for the day I get myself in order enough to actually read it. You know, when I stop reading all those library books that I’ve still got piled around the place. I am so glad my library doesn’t charge fines.

That’s just a taste of all the books I’m procrastinating reading. I swear I am going to get around to reading them one of these days, and it will be glorious when I do. I just have to stop collecting more books and maybe just read the ones I have for a bit. Or maybe I need to find the secret to immortality so I have more time to read everything. But I want to know, what books are on your reading list that you’ve yet to get around to? What’s the longest you’ve ever put off reading a book you’ve been really excited to read? Have you read any of the books on my list? Let’s chat!
