Introducing ‘The Shattering Song’ | Song Magic #2

December 9, 2019

One of my favourite parts of the entire publishing process is the moment when I get to see the finished book cover for the very first time. There’s such a thrill to looking at the cover on the screen and realising that this manuscript that I’ve been working on for months and months is about to become a real book. And of course, once I’ve seen the cover, I can’t wait to share it with people, from my family members, to my amazingly patient co-workers at my cafe day job. And now, with the imminent release of my second novel, ‘The Shattering Song’, book 2 of the Song Magic duology, I wanted to share the finished cover and back cover blurb.

Saving the kingdom could cost Briar everything

Briar hoped the Crystal Tree would strip dark magician Sachio of his power, stopping his scheme to steal his brother’s throne. When this plan fails, she and her friends must race to expose the lies that could win him the kingdom.

However, they face not only Sachio, but an army of child magicians who march on the castle, leaving a trail of death and destruction. With the crown now within Sachio’s reach, Briar must decide what she is willing to sacrifice to protect the people she loves.

The eagerly anticipated sequel to ‘The Crystal Tree’ is a thrilling tale of sisters, magic, sacrifice, and love

‘The Shattering Song’ is the sequel to my YA fantasy, ‘The Crystal Tree’, which released in August last year. Being a sequel means that the cover for this book has been an interesting challenge to design, because we needed to make sure that it fitted with the design of the first book, while also being stunning in its own right. Everything from the background colour, to the pattern of stars in the background, to the layout of the text has to fit with that of ‘The Crystal Tree’. My amazingly talented graphic designer sister did an amazing job of staying true to the series design, while creating something truly gorgeous, and putting up with all my annoying tweaks to boot.

As an indie author, I do so much of the work myself, everything from writing and editing the story, to formatting it for print and kindle editions, and everything in between. I love seeing my novels taking shape into the book I always imagined it could be. But I have to admit, there’s nothing quite like that feeling of looking at your cover and thinking ‘this is a real book’. Moments like that are so precious, and they definitely keep me going when the formatting’s going all wonky and I can’t figure out why. And now the final cover is finished, and I get to share it with you all, and I couldn’t be more excited.

Well, I could, but only when ‘The Shattering Song’ releases on Friday the 13th of December (Australian time). This book is the finale in my Song Magic duology. I hope you’ll pick up a copy of my brand new book when it drops. Of course, you may not have read the first book yet, but if that is the case, don’t worry. ‘The Crystal Tree’ ebook will be free for for the whole of the 13th, and also the 14th (again, Australian time), so it’s the perfect time to pick up both books for the price of one. Follow me over on Instagram to be the first to hear when ‘The Shattering Song’ releases, and when ‘The Crystal Tree’ becomes free. I hope to see you there!

Let me know what you think of the cover and blurb! I hope you love them as much as I do. Have you read ‘The Crystal Tree’ yet? Are you planning on picking up either of my books? I hope so! Only a few days to go.
