What is this? A second post in a week? Yes indeed. And that is because I’m super lucky to be a part of the cover reveal for The Windward King by K. T. Ivanrest. I love when I get to be a part of the cover reveal for a book that looks absolutely gorgeous, and also sounds absolutely amazing. The Windward King definitely checks both of those boxes. I mean, look at this cover. I am so in love with everything about it. The colours, the simplicity, the reflections in the water. Ugh, it’s all just too pretty. I get slight samurai vibes from this cover and that pleases me greatly. I desperately want this book on my shelf right now, just so I can have that cover as part of my collection. Yes, I am that shallow. What can I say? I’m a sucker for a pretty book.
It’s not just a pretty face though. The Windward King has a super intriguing blurb to go with those roguish good looks. Check out this synopsis:
He can change how he looks—but not who he is.
All his life, Shara has struggled to keep up with the rest of his shapeshifter clan. A poor shifter with little talent and even less confidence, he excels only at inadequacy.
When his determination to prove himself results in the brutal injury of a clanmate, Shara flees his home in shame. Taking refuge in the human capital city, he resolves to become as inconsequential as possible—until the prince regent is abducted days before his coronation and Shara is forced to take his place.
Thrust into a world of controlling advisors, scheming pirates, and calculating dignitaries, Shara fumbles through his royal duties. His next mistake could spell disaster for the entire kingdom, but he may also be the only person capable of seeing beyond old prejudices to the truth of the prince’s disappearance.
But if he’s going to stop a war, find the prince, and return to his life of invisibility, he’ll have to rely on the one person he knows for sure he can’t trust—himself.
‘The Windward King’ is a NA fantasy releasing OCTOBER 29th!
There are just so many things I love about this. I’m a huge fan of shapeshifters, for one. I just think that more books need to include them more. And I’m always up for an accidental maiming or two. Does that make me bloodthirsty? But I am particularly in love with the whole trope of impersonating royalty to stave off disaster. I can just see this going badly for poor Shara, and I cannot wait for it. I have also been reliably informed that this book will also treat us to:
- tree-dragons
- shapeshifters thinking humans are weird, repeatedly
- made-up fantasy desserts
- guy friendships
- squirrel-dragons
- sibling angst
- lynxes (okay, that’s just Shara hiding from the world)
I mean, with the promise of not only tree dragons but also squirrel dragons, how could you not want to give it a try? You can be sure that I’ll be treating myself to a copy as soon as it releases.
If you, like me, are planning on buying your very own copy, the ebook preorder is open now, and if you buy it straight away, you’ll also get it at the special preorder price of $1.99 which is absolutely insane! At that price you could probably buy a Kindle copy and a print edition as well. So please, support the author and treat yourself to what promises to be an amazing read at the same time. If those dragons don’t hook you in, then I don’t know what will.
