I love collecting quotes. I have a huge file on my computer of quotes that I’ve seen on websites, tweets, and graphics around the place, and whenever I need to feel inspired, I read through a few. Sometimes they motivate me, and sometimes they inspire interesting musings. The other day, while scrolling Instagram, I found a new favourite quote that really got me thinking. It says: “There are seven days in the week. Someday is not one of them”.
‘Someday’ is a word I use a lot. I would like to write this certain book someday. I would like to get back into the habit of reading more someday. I want to get more consistent about writing and blogging someday. But ‘someday’ isn’t a day on the calendar. And, shockingly, when I put things off until ‘someday’, they never actually happen, because ‘someday’ isn’t a plan either. If I really want these things to happen, then ‘someday’ isn’t really an option. ‘Someday’ is me just waiting, hoping something else will take control of things for me.
If ‘someday’ is the waiting time, then ‘now’ is the powerful one. ‘Now’ is immediate. ‘Now’ gives me the power to control what happens to me. No matter what this dream or this goal is that I have, there is always something I could be doing ‘now’ to bring myself one step closer to it being a reality. I don’t have to sit here and wait for ‘someday’ to arrive, when I could go out there and starting doing things ‘now’.
This year, I want to make things happen. I want to go out there and be the one moving mountains. I don’t want to wait for that mythical ‘someday’ to arrive. We are squarely in the first month of a brand new year that is just waiting for us to fill it with amazing things. Do I sit here and just wait for good things to maybe happen to me, or do I seize the moment, go out there and take the initiative? This is my ‘now’. My time to get things started, to stop waiting and start doing things.
‘Someday’ sounds great, but ‘now’ is magical. ‘Now’ is what gets things rolling, especially at the beginning of a new year. It’s the perfect time to be making changes, taking steps, and making this moment the start of something truly great for the year. Why waste time, when we could be writing our own path?
2019 is here and it’s full of potential. Are we going to sit back and wait for things to happen to us, or are we going to seize the day, step into our ‘now’, and take charge of our year? I don’t know about you, but I want to make this the moment where something great begins. ‘Now’ is magic. ‘Now’ is the springboard into everything we want to happen to us. This year, I challenge you to do something now, instead of waiting for that mythical someday to roll around. You don’t have to wait. This is your year. You can make it into something amazing.
