Christmas is exactly one week away, which means that are likely to be many, many bookworm getting excited about all the books that might be sitting under their Christmas tree sometime very soon. I know I am! And I’m sure we’ve all got a list the length of our left and right arms of all the books that we’d like to be given this year. I keep a running list on my phone of all the books that I’d like to own someday, so if anyone ever wants a gift idea for me, I’m pretty sure I can suggest a couple…of dozen. Here are the top two booksthat I would love to receive this Christmas.
In the wake of a climactic battle in the ruined city of Babel, two former best friends suddenly find themselves on opposite sides of the same quest. Eve is torn between the memories of the girl she was, and the synthetic she’s discovered herself to be. Together with her lifelike “siblings,” Eve sets out to find the real Ana Monrova, whose DNA is the key to building an army of lifelikes. Meanwhile, Eve’s best friend, Lemon, is coming to terms with a power that she has long denied–and that others want to harness as a weapon. When she meets a strange boy named Grimm, he offers to lead her out of the horror-ridden landscape and to an enclave of other abnorms like herself. There, Lemon quickly finds a sense of belonging–and perhaps even love–among the other genetic deviates. But all is not what it seems, and with enemies and friends, heroes and villains wearing interchangeable faces, Lemon, too, will join the race to locate Ana Monrova before her former best friend can get to her.
One book I would love to discover under the tree on Christmas morning is Dev1at3 by Jay Kristoff. You’ve probably guessed by now that I’m rather a huge Jay Kristoff fan. I LOVED the Illuminae Files, which he co-authored with Amie Kaufman. With crazy AI, space adventures, a touch of horror here and there, and the most unique method of storytelling I’ve ever seen, this series is just amazing. Illuminae got me to give his solo book Lifel1k3 a go and I was so glad that I did. It’s a dystopia set in a world where some people have powers, androids and synthetic lifeforms are real, and road trips get a little bit crazy. I loved it from the first chapter, and I’ve been eagerly awaiting book 2 for an entire year. I can’t wait to get my hands on this one and devour it whole.
First, the bad news: an ancient evil–you know, your standard consume-all-life-in-the-galaxy deal–is about to be unleashed. The good news? Squad 312 is standing by to save the day. They’ve just got to take care of a few small distractions first.
Like the clan of gremps who’d like to rearrange their favorite faces.
And the cadre of illegit GIA agents with creepy flowers where their eyes used to be, who’ll stop at nothing to get their hands on Auri.
Then there’s Kal’s long-lost sister, who’s not exactly happy to see her baby brother, and has a Syldrathi army at her back. With half the known galaxy on their tails, Squad 312 has never felt so wanted.
When they learn the Hadfield has been found, it’s time to come out of hiding. Two centuries ago, the colony ship vanished, leaving Auri as its sole survivor. Now, its black box might be what saves them. But time is short, and if Auri can’t learn to master her powers as a Trigger, the squad and all their admirers are going to be deader than the Great Ultrasaur of Abraaxis IV.
Shocking revelations, bank heists, mysterious gifts, inappropriately tight bodysuits, and an epic firefight will determine the fate of the Aurora Legion’s most unforgettable heroes-and maybe the rest of the galaxy as well.
Another book that I’d be so excited to receive this Christmas is Aurora Burning, again by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman. I’m almost ashamed to admit that a year after I bought the first book, Aurora Rising, I still haven’t managed to read it. But I know it’s going to be amazing when I do get to it. Any book with the tagline “They’re not the heroes we wanted. They’re just the ones we could find” is going to be awesome. So of course I’m going to be excited about the release of a sequel. The end of this year is great for the release of my highly anticipated sequels, and I’m definitely hoping that this one will join my collection sometime very soon.
Those are a couple of the books I would be so excited to unwrap this Christmas. But I would love to hear from you. What books are you hoping to receive this Christmas? What sequel book are you eagerly anticipating? Any other Jay Kristoff/Amie Kaufman fans out there?
I’m hoping to receive yours <3
