If there’s one thing you can count on with me, it’s that I’m going to be the last person to pick up whatever’s popular, from books, to movies, even down to music. If something is trending, you can bet that I won’t get to it until at least a month after it initially becomes popular. Which probably goes a long way to explaining why I’ve only just heard ‘Into the Unknown’ from Frozen II is. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I saw the song floating around on YouTube a while ago, saved it to my Watch Later, and didn’t listen to it. Because getting to things in a timely manner doesn’t appear to be part of my personality.
Now that I’ve finally gotten around to giving it a listen, I’ve had it playing on repeat. I think it’s been the only song I’ve willingly listened to all day (the work playlist does *not* count, and that’s probably going to continue for the next week at least. I don’t do music obsessions by half. Even as I’ve been listening to it and belting out all the words in the car, I’ve been thinking how perfect this song is, not just for Frozen II, but as a theme song for any protagonist standing on the edge, but is still refusing the call. Even though adventure whispers their name, they’re afraid to step out into the unknown. But in the end, they’re going to go, no matter their fear.
‘Into the Unknown’ is perfect for anyone writing fantasy, but I also feel like it would suit most protagonists, no matter what genre they’re from. Everyone shares a fear of giving up what they know, leaving the people they love, and striking out to follow the call to adventure. If you’re looking for a bit of inspiration today, I’d highly recommend giving this song a listen, if you haven’t already.
Have your heard this song before? What song is currently inspiring you? What song do you recommend I check out, whether it’s good for writing inspiration or not?
