Writing Music | Race To Durango

February 21, 2020

If you like amazing instrumental, or semi-instrumental music for writing, you really can’t go past Two Steps From Hell. If you haven’t heard of these amazing musicians before, they’re an awesome group who make film and trailer type music. Apparently their music has been in movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean and X-Men, so you know they’re good at what they do. Pirates of the Caribbean in particular has one of my favourite soundtracks.

Whether you listen to music on Spotify, like me, or on YouTube, Two Steps From Hell have so many amazing albums of music for you to choose from. Guaranteed, they have a piece what will match the genre of your book and the mood of the scene you’re currently in.  The albums almost make for great listening to in the background if you just want to queue a whole bunch of songs up for a long writing session.

While Two Steps From Hell have loads of great songs, my latest favourite discovery is this piece, called Race To Durango. It has an awesome fantasy type feel to it, which I particularly adore. It uses loads of drums, and strings, a touch of brass, and a bunch of wordless human shouts as well, which I’ve loved since the Skyrim soundtrack. The whole piece is fast paced, upbeat, cheerful, and triumphant.

Have you listening to any of Two Steps From Hell’s music before? If so, do you have a favourite piece, or album? What is your favourite film soundtrack to write to?
